Meet Archie 💙
Archie may not look like your typical fluffy Great Pyrenees, but don't let that fool you—this handsome Anatolian/Pyr mix is one very special TGPR boy!
At about 1½ years old, Archie is still very much a goofy, playful puppy at heart. He was adopted as a young puppy but unfortunately returned to TGPR at 10 months old through no fault of his own. He then spent some time in boarding while waiting for the right opportunity to come along.
During that time, one thing became very clear: Archie wasn't a bad or difficult dog. He was simply a young dog who needed consistency, structure, routine and someone to teach him what was expected of him.
So that's exactly what we decided to give him!
Archie is currently completing an 8-week professional home-based board-and-train program, and he is absolutely thriving. His trainers continually tell us how proud they are of his progress, and we're pretty proud of him too!
Archie is becoming proficient in Sit, Sit-Stay, loose-leash walking, door manners, kennel manners and No Jumping. He's also working on Down, Down-Stay, Place and Recall. His impulse control has improved tremendously, and he's becoming more confident, focused and reliable every week.
Even better, Archie isn't just practicing these skills in a quiet training environment. He's been working around different dogs, going on outings and practicing in public places filled with new people, sights, sounds and distractions. He's learning to stay engaged with his handler and make good choices no matter what's happening around him.
Underneath all that training is the same Archie we've always known—a sweet, affectionate, playful and wonderfully goofy young dog who loves interacting with his people and enjoying life. Give this boy a water hose to play with and you'll see exactly what we mean! 😂💦
Archie simply needed someone to give him the foundation he missed during puppyhood, and now he's showing us just how much potential was there all along.
And yes, we know... Archie isn't very "Pyr-looking." His brother apparently claimed most of the fluffy Great Pyrenees genes while Archie inherited much more of the Anatolian side of the family! But we hope someone will look beyond the lack of white fluff and see the wonderful dog standing underneath it.
Because great dogs come in different packages.
Archie has already experienced being adopted and returned. He's spent far too much of his young life in boarding. Now he's working incredibly hard and learning everything he needs to know to succeed in a home.
What he needs next isn't another temporary stop.
He needs his person. He needs his family. He needs HOME. ❤️
Archie's future adopter will be getting something pretty special: a young, loving dog with an amazing personality who is completing eight weeks of professional training and has been given an incredible foundation for his future.
Maybe Archie isn't the Great Pyrenees you pictured when you started looking.
Maybe he's the dog you didn't know you were looking for. 🐾💙
